Definition

A tumor is a knot, ie. a finite liquefaction of tissues, unlike cysts, which are fluid-filled blisters in the body. Tumors can be benign or malignant (cancer).

Types of tumors

The three main types of tumors in the kidneys are all malignant:

  • Wilms tumor.
This is a rare disorder that developed in fetal life. It therefore only seen in children and described in more detail during childhood diseases.

  • Renal Pelvis Tumor.
Kidney basin is a structure that sits in close relation to the kidney. The newly formed urine collects and transmits it through the urinary bladder to the head. Renal Pelvis Tumors often seen together with Tumors of the urinary bladder and under this.

  • From Hyper.
This tumor represents 90% of all kidney tumors and can generally describe as kidney cancer. From Hyper is rare before 40 years of age and is seen most frequently in 60-70-years of age. There diagnosed around. 600 cases per year in Denmark, and the disease is twice as common in men as in women.

The following describeshypernefromet.

Tumor gives few symptoms and is usually relatively high (more than 5cm in diameter), when it was discovered. In 10% of cases where more than one tumor in the same kidney, and 2% of hyper from are two-sided. 1 / 3 has spread (metastatic themselves) to one or more parts of the body at the time of diagnosis, which reduces the forecast.

Symptoms of tumors of the kidney

As mentioned above, the hyper mostly from very few symptoms in the first long while. Half haveblood in the urineas the only symptom. It may prove as easy or dark pink stain of urine or as clearly fresh and / or partially blood clots. Other symptoms arepainorprinted on the side, Perhaps feeling a filling. There may be more general symptoms of cancer in the form offatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss and periods of fever.

Complications of tumors in the kidney

Complication may be referred to the spread of the tumor. Both locally in kidney tissue, where it eventually can cause kidney failure, and to the great nyrekar, which further spread can be made through the bloodstream. This allows for relatively rapid progress in the formation of metastases in the lungs, liver, brain and bones, with pain or other symptoms from these bodies. The first symptom of a kidney cancer may be that a metastasis-affected bone break without justification. Untreated lead nyrecanc

Precautions and diagnosis of tumors of the kidney

By all signs of blood in the urine should quickly seek medical attention. The earlier the disease is detected, the better the treatment options. Doctors may occasionally feel a large tumor by pressing the kidney. Urine Tests may show the content of the blood or tumor cells. Blood tests can give an idea of cancer, but often can be a form of imaging study is needed to make the diagnosis and evaluate tumorens spread. It can be X-ray after the injection of contrasting color into the bloodstream (urografi)

Treatment of tumors of the kidney

The treatment is an operation where you completely remove the affected kidney and the surrounding fat and lymph nodes. But this requires that you have previously studied that the remaining kidney function as it should, since it is dependent on at least one functioning kidney to live.

If the cancer has spread to one or more metastases elsewhere in the body, exercise is not operating, unless there are pronounced symptoms in the form of bleeding and pain that can be remedied. Symptoms of metastasis may sometimes kept down by chemotherapy or radiation, which does not improve the prognosis. Specialized cancer treatment with interleukin, which acts on the immune system, has been shown to be effective by hyper from the metastases.

Forecasts of tumors of the kidney

The disease is serious, but the prognosis depends largely on the spread of the disease at diagnosis time. Nearly 7 out of 10 are alive 5 years after operation of an isolated tumor. By spreading the prognosis is considerably worse. After the operation will move to control through a number of years to observe whether the tumor comes back.
