Definition and causes


Blærebetændelse is the most common form of infection of the urinary tract, but is rare in men. It occurs almost always because the bacteria migrate from the skin up through the urethra to the bladder, where they can multiply and create infection. This is usually the bacteria through the intestine, which set in the skin in the area (known asColi bacteria).

Blærebetændelse are frequent in women (see Blærebetændelse in women), due to the urethra, and hence the distance from skin to the bladder is much shorter than in men.
 
In men, blærebetændelse often associated with other disorders of the urinary tract. The bacteria multiply best in standing urine, and incomplete emptying of the bladder can increase the risk of blærebetændelse. This is typically caused by drainage obstacles in the form of urinrørsforsnævringer, for example. because of arvæv or enlarged prostate or rarely a tumor in the bladder. In children can cause birth defects (see urinary tract infections in children).

Symptoms of blærebetændelse in men


The symptoms are similar for men and women. Frequently, small urination, which often is painful or bitter, is the key. The urine can be dark or cloudy and possibly. contain blood. There are generally few complications to blærebetændelse. Infection may be spread through urine heads up to the kidneys and give acute renal pelvis, which by repeated instances can cause damage to the kidneys.

Preventing blærebetændelse in men


In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems the infection can spread to blood and give blood poisoning.
